Your website makes a trip sound like fun. This is the 2nd year we've been in the area for the Texas Star Party and you've changed your policies during the week. Last year you went from open all week to only 4 days. Yesterday, your website said you were open for hunting an this afternoon when we pulled it up to get directions, you changed the hours again to not letting the public come search. We are very disappointed in the timings of your changes. Even though RV'ers can search, we'll be taking you off our list of places to see and will be looking for other sites to stay

Admin reply: So sorry my website was confusing. Last year, my husband died. Obviously, I wasn't open. This year, I was open Thurs., Fri., and tomorrow, Sat. You could have come any of those three days. Now that my husband is not here, three days a week is about all I can manage, and handle all the other chores of the ranch. If you'll re-read my website you'll see that when staying here at the ranch, either in rv or in one of our cabins, you can rock hunt. Both of those options require a reservation. Also, the rock shop is still open those three days a week, 9 to 5.

Jan is a fantastic hostess and with her map, we were able to explore and find nearly every variety of agate available on the ranch. We did spend 6 days and so that was a distinct advantage. We have chased Lake Superior Agates for some time and there were spots on the ranch that looked a bit like the gravel on the beaches with the exception that most of the gravel on the ranch is agate. Thanks again Jan. We will be back.

We spent 6 hours in just one (approximately one hundred yards) area and came out with 16 lbs of prime agate...Red Plume (FULL BISCUITS!!!), Flower Garden, Black, Gold, Banded, Carnelian....and lots of other types of gems! And this is after all of the many years and thousands of people that have visited the Ranch since 1884! We can't wait to come back and look over all of the LOADS of other areas we didn't even get to look!! Thank you Jan for making this such an AMAZING experience for a couple of ametuers...... :)

I spent two days on the ranch last year and found some nice "flower Garden" Agate. Now that I know the lay of the land I'm planning to stay at least three days this year.I will highly recommend Woodward Ranch to any rock-hounds who are able to make the trip.

I have assisted in taking dozens of geology field trips in the Alpine and Big Bend region, and I never knew this place existed! I look forward to visiting the ranch this summer!
